![]() ![]() As a result, several major tool manufacturers have developed new, small routers. In fact, they’re among the hottest-selling tools today. So it’s a little ironic that the latest thing in routers has taken the opposite course.įrom laminate trimmer to trim router to palm router, the popularity of small-bodied routers has soared with woodworkers. Haven't made any cuts yet, but right now I'm quite happy. The trend in power tools usually runs uphill to bigger and more powerful models. Managed to persuade someone to ship their offering. Searched far and wide on eBay and Facebook Marketplace. Porter-Cable USA made routers are the best in the business. I wasn't going to give my money to dewalt. I considered the Dewalt offering, but you know what? This guy just. The router gets very top heavy, and it's very difficult to feel the piece, causing you to either benignly lift off the piece, or egregiously bite into the piece. The common love handle design is terrible. The included base wouldn't fit the wider 1/2" roundover bit I have, and the on-lock is very difficult to use while using the router.įor the life of me I don't know why the D-Handle design isn't more popular. And maybe the sturdiness of the 330 is worth the trouble even if I will be changing the paper more often. On the other hand, maybe dust collection is not a concern because I should just do it outside, rather than worry about metal dust escaping or clogging up a dust bag. These concerns make me think the Porter Cable 330 might not be for me. I also think I will find myself changing sheets more often, either because the metal uses up the sandpaper more quickly than wood, or because the surface I'm sanding is small enough that it won't wear through the paper before changing grits. For this application at least, I feel like dust collection is more important because metal dust is more harmful than sawdust.
